Roof Grading System

Roofs are assigned by Tipperary Raceway. Drivers do not choose their own roof grade.
National Hot Rod roof grades are assigned by Spedeworth.
The grading system exists to:

  • Encourage competitive racing
  • Assist race control in organising grids
  • Help new drivers develop
  • Prevent experienced drivers dominating beginner grades

White Roof

White Roofs are generally new drivers.
White is a protected grade intended to allow new drivers to gain racing experience.
A driver cannot return to White Roof status once they have progressed beyond it.
Drivers will normally remain White Roofs for up to five race meetings depending on grading schedules.
Ninja Karts are exempt from this requirement, white roofs are used as another class to assign to drivers.

Yellow Roof

Yellow Roof drivers are developing competitors who have progressed beyond White Roof status.

Drivers remain in this grade until their results indicate that promotion is appropriate.

Blue Roof

Blue Roof drivers are established competitors who have demonstrated consistent performance.

Red Roof

Red Roofs represent the top drivers in the class.
These drivers generally start at the rear of the grid.

How Re-Grading Works

Roof grades are normally reviewed every third points-scoring race meeting for that class.
Cup events are excluded.
The grading reviews each driver’s last five qualifying points-scoring race meetings.
Grades are then adjusted based on overall performance.

Important Notes

Disqualifications (DQ) are excluded from calculations.
Meetings where a driver scores no points are also excluded.
This prevents competitors benefitting from non-finishes or missed meetings.

Grade Movement Limits

During any grading review:

  • Drivers may move up a maximum of two grades.
  • Drivers may move down a maximum of one grade.
