2024 Rules
Tipperary Raceway SOHRA Premier Rods Rules.

CARS BUILT TO OTHER PROMOTER RULES CAN STILL RACE FOR THIS YEAR, BUT WILL START FROM THE BACK OF THE GRID. Drivers must be 16+. This is an inexpensive way to go racing. The car’s are all 1.6Ltrs.
The formula is non-contact and cars should be prepared with a professional racing appearance.
This standard should be kept up throughout the racing season.
Helmets, neck brace, fireproof race suit, balaclava, and fireproof gloves must be presented with the car.

  1. Drivers:
    Must be aged 16+. Drivers aged between 16 and 18 must prove their date of birth by producing their birth certificate when applying for a license. The drivers must also have the signature of a parent or guardian.
  2. Engines:
    All parts of the engine must be original and no mixing/matching is permitted.
    Exhausts must have a silencer fitted and be effective in reducing noise.
    Engine max size 1600cc.
    No flywheel to be lightened.
    No skimming of the head or block is allowed.
    Tolerance of 10/12 through is permitted if replacing head gasket – is to be taken off the head only.
  3. Weight:
    Car weight for this class is a minimum of 880 kgs.
    Cars will be weighted on race days.
  4. Transmission:
    Gearboxes must remain standard to the model of the vehicle.
    The differential assembly must not be locked in any way. I.E. no limited slip differentials or welded differentials are allowed.
  5. Brakes:
    To be original and to work on all wheels.
  6. Suspension:
    Both rear suspension and springs MUST REMAIN ORIGINAL.
    No competition springs are allowed at the rear.
    Right front MUST REMAIN ORIGINAL.
    No Competition springs are allowed on the front right.
    All pickup points MUST remain original at the right front.
    No lowering kit allowed. You can cut or heat springs to lower, to within 1” of space between the top of the tyre and the body of the car.

A camber is allowed on the front left only to a maximum of 14 degrees.
A competition spring or stronger spring is allowed on the front left only.
You can move forward the wheel on the front left only by 1” for a lead wheel.

  1. Body Work:
    To remain exactly as production.
    No reinforcing at the front or rear of the car.
    The driver’s door may be -deskinned to allow chicken bars to run flush with the inside door skin.
    NO OTHER DESKINNING IS PERMITTED
    No Reinforcing allowed – The driver’s door must remain openable or removable.
    Wheels must remain inside the body of the car.
  2. Roll-Cages
    Full roll cage must be present for ALL NEW BUILDS FROM JAN 2015
    This must have 2 x Chicken bars on the driver’s door, two on the left door, and a hoop behind the driver’s seat.
  3. Screens:
    No glass allowed. All glass must be removed.
    Front and rear lights must be removed.
    All flammable material must be removed i.e. seats/carpets/door panels/ roof cloth.
    A Driver’s door net must be fitted.
    A piece of ½” box must be fitted 1/3rd of the way across the windshield.
    A Rear-view mirror and driver door mirrors are compulsory.
    Brake lights must be fitted to all cars and must be fitted in the centre of the rear window space.
  4. Batteries:
    Batteries must be securely clamped in and covered with a leakproof material – E.G. rubber.
    Dry cell batteries are allowed.
  5. Seats:
    Competition Bucket seats are required.
    The seat must be supported at shoulder height from the roll cage with a hoop.
  6. Seat Belts:
    Harness seat belts are compulsory. (4-5 points)
  7. Steering:
    The steering rack or box must remain in its original position. A Clip on steering wheel is compulsory.
  8. Fuel Tanks:
    A Competition tank is compulsory – it must have a non-return valve fitted and be fully covered by the firewall. An aluminium tank with a firewall (box) must be fitted.
  9. Radiator:
    Must remain under the bonnet.
  10. Numbers:
    Must be displayed on both sides of the car – 12 Inches high and 2 inches stroke.
    Roof Numbers must also be fitted on both sides.
  11. Sign Writing:
    The driver’s name must appear on the sun visor.
    No Obscene Graphics to appear on cars.
  12. Allowed Cars:
    Alpha Romeo 156.
    Audi A3.
    Fiat Marea.
    Ford Escort, Focus, Sierra.
    Hyundai Lantra, Coupe.
    Mazda 323, 323F.
    Mini.
    Nissan Sunny, Almera, Primera.
    Open Vectra, Tigra, Astra.
    Renault Megane.
    Rover 400, 416.
    Seat Ibiza.
    Subaru Impreza (2wd).
    Toyota Avensis, Corolla, Carina E.
    VW Jetta, Golf.
    Hatchback cars are allowed.
    Transponders must be fitted to all cars.
    NO OTHER TYPES OF CARS OTHER THAN THOSE LISTED ABOVE WILL BE PERMITTED TO RACE FOR THIS SEASON.
    NO TURBO or 4 WHEEL DRIVE CARS PERMITTED.
  13. Wheels & Tyres:
    6 & ½ inches max width for wheel rims.
    Max tyre size is 17-inch profile I.E. 205/55/17.
    No Competition tyres allowed.
    Max tyre price €100.00.
  14. Kill Switch:
    Ignition and fuel pumps must be run through the kill switch.
    THE KILL SWITCH MUST BE POSITIONED IN THE REAR LEFT BOTTOM CORNER OF THE L/H/S WINDOW.
  15. General Rules:
    Transponders and race receivers are compulsory. Fitted 1.8 meters back from the furthest forward point.
    Helmets, Race suits, race gloves, neck braces and balaclavas are compulsory.
    Each Driver is permitted one car per meeting.
    A driver speeding in the pits will receive a ban.
    Drivers can not work on his/her car in centre of the track during a race.
    Drivers MUST remain in the car if pulling into the in-field during a race with seatbelts and Helmet/gloves on.
    Only if there is a risk of fire or when directed by a Marshal, can you exit the car.
    No outside assistance is allowed after the car goes on the track.
    The driver is responsible for his crew or team at all times on race day and must not interfere with other drivers.
    Course Marshal on the day will address any situation that arises.
    All drivers must attend the Drivers Briefing on race day before racing. Bring your race radio.
    Penalties will apply to drivers putting any issues on social media, or putting track staff into disrepute.

    The Scrutineers decision will be final.
    IF IT’S NOT IN THE RULES, YOU CANNOT DO IT.
